The Approach

The Approach

Though Lesley had always created in a variety of mediums, and knew that she had innate artistry, she was trapped by the idea that art is something that hangs on the wall. Eventually, she realized that she had been an artist all her life, her creativity laying in an inventiveness overflowing with experimentation and intuition. She came to define art in a way that was comforting to her.

She turned to artistry with everyday objects, wanting everything in her house to be “interesting and colorful and fun.” She takes what others may see as ‘junk’ and gives them life. Her creations invigorate a space, whether it be quilting, painting, or mosaicing.

Objects should never merely be functional or practical—they should be meaningful, sentimental, exciting, beautiful, and unique. She approaches each project with an intention to both put herself in the object as well as putting a sense of space in the object, understanding how it molds to those around it. She has an intuitive sense in her practice, channeling those who are connected to the object in her work, and each piece of art she creates is representative of the owner and a repurposing of an object into something emblematic of its home.

Lesley is an innate creator, and her work spans mediums and styles. She loves color, pattern, and exploring her imagination. She has finished artworks as well as specializing in commissions. Her goal with a project is always to make something meaningful, whether you have an object you’d like her to work from, or if you have an idea that you’d like her to bring to fruition with an object she finds.
